Artist Statement
I discovered sculpture at a young age through creating papier-mâché animals, sparking a lifelong fascination with the tactile process of bringing ideas to life. I began practicing ceramics in a private studio during my teens, followed by art courses and ceramic workshops from renowned artists from Cananda and the U.S.
My sculptures reflect a deep love of nature and animals, using them as vessels to craft narratives that delve into the emotions of childhood—moments of joy tempered by the inherent complexities of growing up. Through my work, I explore the universal search for meaning and the human yearning for freedom, self-expression and connection.
Each piece seeks to touch an emotional chord, evoking memories of happiness and wonder, while also embracing the bittersweet aspects of longing and discovery. Sometimes playful and whimsical, other times poignant and reflective, my sculptures invite viewers to connect with their own stories, awakening emotions that feel both personal and universal.
Process
My process focuses on bringing each piece to life through form, texture, and color. All figures and forms are hand-built using stoneware, terra cotta or porcelain. Coils and slabs are primarily used and my hands and modeling tools are used to achieve the fine details on the face, hands and feet. Each ceramic piece is then finished using multiple layers of underglazes, stains, glazes, and slips, as well as mark making to achieve a depth of color and texture.
